Life is the pursuit of purpose

A time comes in life when one begins to ask himself, “what is the purpose for my existence?”. This questions comes for the first time between the ages of 7-9 years and results in the attempt to find an identity. If one is lucky and this early stage gets properly resolved, at the end of teenage, the person would have discovered purpose (or at least learnt the act of setting goals and pursuing them). Most often than not, teenagers miss it and determine their identity by going along with peers.

My flesh was made by you, and my parts joined together in my mother’s body. I will give you praise, for I am strangely and delicately formed; your works are great wonders, and of this my soul is fully conscious. My frame was not unseen by you when I was made secretly, and strangely formed in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book all my days were recorded, even those which were purposed before they had come into being. How dear are your thoughts to me, O God! how great is the number of them!”  (BBE)

Psalms of David 139:13-17

Esther had her own challenges too. Her parents had been killed during the war. His uncle had also lost his own family. Mordecai had only Esther as family and he adopted her as his daughter. He nurtured her as a Jew would do by teaching her all things pertaining to the laws and customs of the Jews. He enabled her to develop and stay true to her identity, she was a Jew. Wherever they went, the Jews remained true to Yahweh except a few ones.

As time went by, Esther became the queen in a strange land. By a twist of fate (as some would like to call it), she had been elevated to that exalted position when the previous queen decided to ridicule the king before his dignitaries. His uncle had thought her to keep her identity as a secret, she had been obedient and apparently no one in the palace knew she was Jewish. Then came Haman, the deputy to the King and highly honoured above all. Haman saw the king daily while Esther the royal queen had not been sent for in 30days.

According to the rule, no one enters into the king’s chamber without being called and anyone who does that risked being executed. In the meantime, Haman who had become a very powerful person in the kingdom had spent those 30 days in orchestrating a plan aimed at destroying the Jews. He wanted them completely wiped off the face of the earth as far as the kingdom was concerned.*

It was time for Queen Esther to save the day. However, Esther was afraid for her life for the King had not sent for her in a whole month. At that point, Mordecai, Esther’s uncle made a very important statement: “perhaps you had been born for such a day as this”. Esther took up the challenge and her effort resulted in a great deliverance for her people. The enemy was defeated and permanently dealt with by her decisiveness.

“If you keep quiet now, help and freedom for the Jews will come from another place. But you and your father’s family will all die. And who knows, maybe you have been chosen to be the queen for such a time as this. “

Esther 4:14-15

There is enough evidence in scriptures and throughout history to show that oftentimes babies are born for particular reasons and in certain seasons to accomplish a purpose. This actually is the rule of nature under the creator and there are only few exceptions if at all. To deny this fact only comes when one denies the existence of the living God. There is a God and you were born for a purpose.

What are you doing with your life? Are you in the path of destiny? Is there any passion in your heart? Are you doing what you were born for? Are you fulfilling purpose?

“The LORD’S message came to me: “Before I made you in your mother’s womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I chose you for a special work…..”

Jeremiah 1: 4-5

By the time one is reaching mid-life, the recognized midlife crisis tends to set in. So many theories have been propounded as the basis for the midlife crisis but I assure you that the primary cause for a midlife crisis is lack of purpose. The lack of a purpose, the fact that one is just going through the motion like everyone else, the lack of passion for the job one is involved in, or the fact that nothing much has been accomplished thus far are the basis for crisis in middle aged individuals.

May you discover purpose and may you be fulfilled in your life.
